What do you delight in? I read an article today in World Magazine that gave me some cause to think on that one... It was even good enough to share.
Excerpts from "The Uselessness of Delight," by Andree Seu
"Feed, shelter, protect, and train were the holy mandates I took from Holy Writ... these were more or less empirical and quantifiable, duties that could be discharged without the heart engaged, like a well-trained monkey.
What was too huge to be seen was the eternal love Triangle, three Persons savoring each other's company... a mutual delight that formed the matrix of the universe. Delight was before anything.
Delight is the most useless of things. It doesn't get the house clean or the bills paid. Useless - like flowers. Like rainbows. Like Beethoven's Ninth.
Delight covers a multitude of parenting short-comings.... [your children] will know it, for delight cannot be hidden. It finds excuse to ooze all over the place. It seeks a getaway vacation with the beloved when it's not convenient. It asks different questions than duty. Duty says, "I should." Delight says, "I want to." Duty is efficient. Delight tends to be anything but.
What is less efficient than the story of mankind? If it were about efficiency, God would have wiped the plate clean and commenced with more promising subjects. The Bible in entirety is a love story, a tale of unquenchable delight - His for us, finally ours for Him. No sound rule of parenting is modeled in the spring of an old man down the road to meet his prodigal. Only delight. No royal protocol is modeled in the dance of a half-naked king before his subjects and the Lord with all his might. Only delight."
"Let the mind for an instant consider the history of the Redeem-er's love, and a thousand enchant-
ing acts of affection will suggest themselves... Our souls may well faint for joy... for our loving benefactor Jesus Christ our Lord, whose love is wonderful, passing the love of women." (CH Spurgeon)

You know, your blog IS quite delightful! Great musings today, as usual, my theologian friend!
I have great news... There is a brand new bloggy thing (webring/social networking/neat bloggy stuff) out there. A homeschooling mommy blogger's husband developed it. It gives you a cool little widgit thing...Oh, I cant describe it. I have one on Fussypants.
I thought you may want to join too. It's called Nearcircle.com. My profile is here
http://www.nearcircle.com/profile?name=Fussypants
I think that will work. I have tons of circle names because I wanted to protect them from spammers.
I have Homeschooling Hotties, Homeschool, and Christian Moms...among others.
In short, it is a privatly run list of blogs that are of like-minds, it will show all sorts of cool stuff!
What am I doing, writing a book, or what?
I just couldn't wait to tell ya!
Mmmm....what a 'delight'ful way to start out my Friday morning! You gave me some beautiful thoughts to start my day with...thank you for your light!
Good thing you love comments so much! Here goes....
1- you need to go claim your blog at technorati.com. It's self explainatory when you get there. Gathering grace all ready has info on file.
2- Great job joining nearcircle! I subscribed to Grace Gatherer....is it Open to anyone? If so, change it to normal, so you have to approve people. This will keep spammers out.
I sent a bunch of circle invites to you, too! Join what you like!
The owner of the site said he is revamping the widgit for the blog...so wait to embed the code (I can help you do that part)....until he finishes the revamp. Could take a couple of days!
Check your nearcircle inbox everyday for updates.
I think I'll blog about it in the next 2-4 days....with a comprehensive guide as to what it is, how to join and how fun it is.
Sorry for the long post!
Go do the technorati thing!
Should I call myself Mrs. Bossypants?
Love & Blessings...
Thank you for the delightful moment with you this morning. Always giving me new things to think about!
May our prayer be that we delight in Him. I love World Magazine & Charles Spurgeon. :)
I had a dream about cupcakes last night b/c of your picture on the post. They sure were tasty! They came in all flavors and colors! What a great dream!!! I love that picture. I "delight" in it!!!
Balance! We don't need no stinkin' balance! Ha, ha, ha!
It is quite a bulky widgit. He is redoing the widgit to make it smaller and with all our multiple circles on it. I'll tell you when he is finished w/ the revamp. Just ignore the inbox 'til then.
Did you actually make those cupcakes? Yummy!
Thank you for visiting! I hope you will come again!!
God Bless!
I pray that my husband and children will see me delighting in them each day!
What great thoughts to start the weekend! Thanks for sharing! :)
I've always loved that Ps 18:19 verse about bringing me out into a broad place. Thank you for sharing it!
AWESOME post! Thanks for the inspiration today. You've prompted me to desire several things...
*To purposefully teach my children about delight.
*To show my family how much I delight in them.
*To keep track of the things I find in Scripture that God delights over... and to strive for them!
Thanks... beautiful post!
Delightful!!! Simple Delightful!!!
Blessings,
Heather - NY
I am thinking what do I delight in? Because I want to. Yesterday, the kids and I had a full day of dr.'s appt. and to dos. I was driving home, and glanced back at them- delighting in them, oh I just wanted to kiss them and tell them. So, I did. I pulled the car over, got out and crawled into the back seat of the van. "Mommy what are you doing," they asked. "I just needed to kiss you and tell you I love you," I said.
Delight!
There's no crafter of words whom I enjoy more than Andree Seu. She's an artist with a pen and certainly deserves the post spotlight now and then.
